Women Supporting Women receives grant from Rural Maryland Council

Salisbury, MD – Women Supporting Women has received a grant in the amount of $16,924 from the Rural Maryland Council, located at 50 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD.

This grant, available beginning November 2021, will enable WSW to provide a new mental health service called “Forward Focus” Therapy Program. Survivors may suffer from anxiety and/or depression after hearing their initial diagnoses of breast cancer. They may also feel the stress of COVID-19 while being immunocompromised. This is where the “Forward Focus” program begins to help better navigate through any mental health concerns.

WSW has partnered with Congruent Counseling Service, LLC, located at 10630 Little Patuxent Parkway, Suite 209, Columbia, MD, to provide up to 5 free sessions to 15 breast cancer survivors who are in need of therapy. If more sessions are preferred, survivors can continue therapy using Medicare, Medicaid or other private insurance.

The therapy sessions are available over the phone or through telehealth services. Participants are able to stay in the comfort of their homes and have the flexibility to schedule their sessions when it is most convenient.

Thank you to the Rural Maryland Council for their continued support and for making this program possible. For more information on the Rural Maryland Council, visit their website at https://rural.maryland.gov/# .
