UM Shore Regional Health Announces Nurse Excellence Award Nominees

University of Maryland Shore Regional Health has announced the 29 nominees for the upcoming Nurse Excellence Awards presentation, set for Monday, May 4, 2020 at the Rufus M. and Loraine Hall Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College.

There are six categories in the Nurse Excellence Awards program – five awards are given to individual nurses and one is given to the nursing staff of a unit or department. Nominations are submitted through an online process that is managed by the Nurse Excellence Awards Committee and is open to all staff throughout UM SRH.

According to Jenny Bowie, vice president for Nursing and Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer, this year’s nominees are an outstanding group. “All of our nominees deserve recognition for their exceptional achievements in nursing excellence and their commitment to quality patient care. The spirit of caring and professionalism they bring to our health care organization is exemplary and they are leaders in their field,” says Bowie.

Six nurses working at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester were nominated: Christine Brennan (Dorchester and Easton), Cassie Fox and Leigh Tomey for the Commitment to Others Award; Chelsea Compton and Brooke Wilson for the Leadership Award; and Susan Deichert for the Mentorship and Advocacy Award.

At Shore Medical Center at Easton, the nominees for the Commitment to Others Award are Thomas Bush, Debora Evans, Lori Geisler, Becky Hutchison, Ed Luschinski, and Becky Lyons; for the Promising Professional Award – Samantha Cherbonnier, Samantha Crutchley and Tiara Patchett; for Leadership – Tyler Gogoll, Jamie Johnson, Nicole Leonard, Melissa Smith and Keri Tucker; for Professional Nursing – Julie Callahan, Chanelle Lake and Christina Weisenborn; for Mentoring and Advocacy – Tina Blalock, Renee Edsall, Steven Pringle, and Dawn Ruby.

Lisa Milton, RN at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown received a nomination for Commitment to Others. Two members of the Nursing Administration team, Chanelle Lake and Tracy Roe, are among the nominees for the Leadership Award.

There are three nominees for the Unit/Department Award for Empirical Outcomes: Shore Medical Center at Easton’s Birthing Center, Shore Medical Center at Dorchester’s Critical Care Unit/2 East; and Renal Dialysis.
