Radcliffe Creek School Kicks Off Giving Tuesday Campaign

Chestertown, MD – Mr. Rogers famously said, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” In that spirit, Radcliffe Creek School is kicking off their 2019 Giving Tuesday campaign this Tuesday, December 3rd, with the goal of raising $5,000 for needed improvements to the school’s playground area and equipment.

For decades, the playground at Radcliffe Creek School has given students opportunities for exercise–encouraging health in both mind and body. Equally as important, the space has created an environment, fostering creativity and socialization through unstructured play. Unfortunately, over the 24 years the school has been in existence, the play equipment has deteriorated to the point where some of the materials have become unsafe and unusable. Additionally, the hill where students enter the playground has eroded, requiring significant landscaping work.

Radcliffe Creek School is asking businesses and individuals from the community to come together and give what they can to bring this vital project to life. “Every dollar raised on Giving Tuesday will go to improve the Radcliffe Creek School’s playground where our school’s individualized, active hands-on program continues to enhance students’ natural curiosity and joy in learning,” said Head of School Meg Bamford.

The school has created convenient ways for the community to support the playground renovation online through the school’s Giving Tuesday Page (radcliffecreekschool.org/giving-tuesday) and its Facebook Page (facebook.com/RadcliffeCreekSchool/). To double a donor’s impact, gifts made through Facebook will be matched by the company starting at eight o’clock in the morning of December 3rd and continuing on a first-come-first-serve basis until Facebook’s $7 Million dollar-for-dollar match to nonprofits runs out.

For more information about this project or other ways to give, including opportunities to dedicate a piece of playground equipment to the school in a person’s name, please contact Kelsey Aburn, director of marketing, communications and admissions, at kaburn@radcliffecreekschool.org.
