Kerr Steps Down as Washington College’s Head Athletic Trainer

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Washington College Head Athletic Trainer Carrie Kerr is stepping down from her position as her husband Tim Kerr ’06 has accepted a teaching position at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania and she and her family will be relocating to the Mercersburg area.

Kerr has served 13 years as an athletic trainer at Washington College in two stints. After a year at Colgate in 2002-03, she arrived in Chestertown prior to the 2003-04 academic year and served two years as an assistant athletic trainer, earning her master’s degree from the College in 2005. She then spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer at Franklin & Marshall before returning to Washington College in 2008 as the associate athletic trainer. She served in that capacity for eight years before being promoted to Head Athletic Trainer in the summer of 2016, a position she held for the past three years following the elevation of Thad Moore from Head Athletic Trainer to Director of Athletics.

“We can’t thank Carrie enough for all that she has done for our department and student-athletes over her tenure here at Washington College,” notes Moore. “While we hate seeing her go we couldn’t be happier for her and her family as she begins the next phase of her career. We wish her, Tim, and family nothing but the best and they will be sorely missed.”

A 2002 graduate of Shippensburg University, she also served on the administrative team for the athletic department.

Kerr provided the following statement reflecting on her time at the College:

As my time at Washington College comes to an end, I will forever be grateful for the time I have spent here. I have been blessed by the many positive relationships and wonderful opportunities that were created here for me and my family.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Thad Moore for the amazing leadership that he provided through my graduate assistant, associate and head athletic training roles. He has been a great mentor and friend since day one and his faith in my abilities has been invaluable.

In addition to Thad, I would like to thank everyone that I have worked with throughout my years at WC within the athletic department, the college and the local community. If I named you all individually, I’m sure I’d miss someone, but this list certainly includes my fellow athletic trainers, student workers, coaches and athletic department staff, college employees, doctors, physical therapists, high school, and community members. Thank you just does not seem adequate for the many memories I created, and the opportunities that I was given to grow not only in my professional role, but as a person.

To my student-athletes, past and present, you have made this job an adventure. I admire your hard work and dedication to your sport and I am happy to have played a small role in your college career. Every day was different and rewarding because of you.

This job takes a village of support to be successful. The support of my family, friends and babysitters helped me provide the best care for my student athletes and the ability to balance my roles as wife, mother, and professional. I will forever be thankful for the friendships formed, knowledge gained and memories made. My family and I will always be proud to be a part of this WC family and we look forward to cheering you on from the stands instead of the sideline!
