Deputy State Fire Marshals Make Arrest in Elkton’s Malicious Burning Case

CECIL COUNTY, MD – Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested a suspect on Saturday, July 6, 2019 in connection with a lawn fire that occurred that same day in Elkton, Maryland.

Mr. Dustin Miller, 36, of Elkton is charged with 2nd Degree Malicious Burning, Reckless Endangerment, and Malicious Destruction of Property under $1,000 after setting fire to his significant other’s clothing on the front lawn of their home following a domestic disagreement.

At 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Singerly Fire Department and the Elkton Police Department were dispatched to a lawn fire on the 200 block of Bruce Court where Miller had ignited his partner’s clothing by means of gasoline and a cigarette lighter. Deputy State Fire Marshals conducted an investigation and determined that Miller was responsible for the incendiary fire that destroyed the personal property on the lawn. Miller was placed in custody, without incident, by 5:00 p.m. that same day.

Miller faces a maximum of over six years and/or $6,000 in fines if found guilty of all the charges in question. He is currently released on his own recognizance.
