Worton, MD — The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) announced that Casey Hurd is the recipient of the 2019 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The award was presented to Hurd on March 21, 2019, at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

The NALP Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes a young entrepreneur age 40 or under who has demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative and who serves as a shining example to students in pursuit of a landscape industry career. The award highlights the importance of private enterprise in the landscape industry as a viable career opportunity among our country’s youth and investing in the growth of entrepreneurship in America. It is presented annually at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition.

Hurd is a local and national award-winning landscape industry leader based in Worton, Maryland. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 2008 with an Associates Degree in Turf and Landscape Management, Hurd worked for a local company for less than two years before branching out on his own.

Currently, Hurd is the Managing Member of Greenscapes Land Care, LLC. He grew the company from a one-man operation to a premiere landscape company on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and in Delaware. Greenscapes Land Care currently employs a staff of thirty and offers a full-range of lawn and landscape services to both residential and commercial customers.

While accepting his award, Mr. Hurd told the 800+ college students attending the competition “When I attended this same event as a student, I never imagined I’d be in this position 10 years later. To all the young, upcoming landscape professionals, find what you enjoy doing, set your goals, and stick with it. I encourage you to look for the opportunities that become available and go after them. You never know where you’ll be in 10 years. Thank you.”

Mr. Hurd continues to show his commitment to Kent County, Maryland, and the Eastern Shore by serving on the local Ag Center and Chamber of Commerce Boards. He supports the local 4-H program through working on events, auction donations, fair cleanup, and offering use of his office space to a local 4-H Club for their meetings and workshops. He provides mowing and other land care services to several local non-profit organizations and the local town traffic circle. In addition, Hurd supports local schools though landscape service, mulch donation, and financial support to the high school Ag Day each year. Mr. Hurd recently was awarded the Kent County Chamber of Commerce 2018 Community Service Award.
