Shore Legal Access welcomes Emily King and Lauren Wynn as Sandy Brown Public Interest Interns
Shore Legal Access, a nonprofit legal aid organization that provides limited-income households with free legal assistance to resolve their civil legal issues, recently welcomed Emily King, of Eldersburg, Maryland, and Lauren Wynn, of Bel Air, Maryland, as Sandy Brown Public Interest Interns. Both King and Wynn will work from SLA’s Salisbury office, which serves the Lower Shore.
The Sandy Brown Public Interest Internship, created in honor of former long-time SLA executive director Sandy Brown, offers a stipend to undergraduate and law students as they gain invaluable experience in the field of public interest law at a respected non-profit organization. The Internship is supported by The Campbell Foundation, with the goal of expanding the pool of diverse, qualified, and committed candidates for career positions in public interest work on the Eastern Shore.
“We are delighted to have these two outstanding students working with us this semester,” said SLA’s Executive Director Meredith Girard, Esq. “Each brings an important voice to this work and we are immensely appreciative of the assistance these young women are providing for our organization and our clients.”

Emily King is a senior at Salisbury University, majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Law, Justice, and Advocacy. King primarily assists Shore Legal Access’ attorneys at rent court as they represent limited-income tenants facing eviction. “As someone with a background in ethics and advocacy,” King said, “I was very excited for the opportunity to assist in providing pro-bono representation to those who cannot afford a lawyer.”

Lauren Wynn, also a senior at Salisbury University, is a Political Science major on the Pre-Law Track, with a minor in Law, Justice, and Advocacy. Wynn has been involved in outreach programs that help raise awareness about the resources available at SLA for legal help. “My main goal in life is to make a positive impact and leave the world a better place. Being part of Shore Legal Access allows me to do just that,” Wynn said.
“Emily and Lauren are engaged in real-world work experiences to serve our clients and raise awareness of our services in the community,” said Juanita Sutton, who supervises undergraduate interns as SLA’s Senior Paralegal and Lower Shore Manager. “Both champion our values of being service-oriented and fostering an atmosphere where people feel respected and dignified.”
