Cecil County Man Dead Following Assault On Another
ELKTON, MD – Maryland State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death last night of a Cecil County man who was stabbed after he allegedly threatened to kill and attacked and the man who stabbed him.
The deceased is identified as Glenn A. Culley, 56, of Elkton, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The person allegedly attacked by Culley is a 63-year-old man from Newark, DE. He has not been charged at this time, pending the results of a Grand Jury hearing to determine if criminal charges are warranted.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police troopers from the North East Barrack responded to a 911 report of a stabbing at a home in the 100-block of Cherry Hill Road, Elkton. Upon arrival, troopers met a Cecil County Sheriff’s Office deputy already on the scene who had detained a suspect.
Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators were notified and responded to conduct the investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates Culley had previously threatened to kill the man he assaulted last night, who was now dating the woman at the home who had previously been in a long-term relationship with Culley. Through interviews and witness information, investigators learned Culley had come to the residence late yesterday morning. He reportedly was yelling outside the home and demanding money from the woman inside. He also reportedly threatened to kill the man who was also inside the home. Culley reportedly eventually left the home, but returned shortly after 9:30 last night.
The preliminary investigation indicates when he returned to the home last night, Culley drove his truck through the yard and up to the house. He banged on windows of the home and demanded money from the woman inside, while threatening to kill the man. When Culley went to the rear of the home, the man inside went outside and confronted him. Culley again reportedly threatened to kill him before charging the man and knocking him to the ground. While being assaulted by Culley who was on top of him, the man allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Culley.
State Police investigators obtained multiple search warrants for the scene, Culley’s vehicle and for the man who stabbed Culley. Police recovered a large folding knife from the man’s pocket. Maryland State Police crime scene technicians responded to process the scene and transport evidence to the Forensic Sciences Division laboratory.
Cecil County State’s Attorney James Dellmyer responded to the scene last night and was briefed by state Police investigators. State’s Attorney Dellmyer determined the investigation will be presented to the members of a Cecil County Grand Jury, who will decide if criminal charges will be filed. The man who stabbed Culley was released from custody without charges.
The investigation is continuing.
