Maryland State Police Investigating Three-Vehicle Crash In Cecil County That Injured State Trooper

NORTH EAST, MD – Maryland State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in which a trooper was injured Monday afternoon in Cecil County.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack responded to I-95 South in the area of MD Route 272 for a report of a crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a trooper, who was on duty and driving an unmarked Chevy Tahoe, had pulled onto the shoulder with his lights on while waiting for a courtesy patrol to assist with removing debris from the road.

The trooper, who is assigned to the JFK Memorial Barrack, was sitting in his vehicle when a male driving a Nissan Armada struck the rear of his vehicle. A third vehicle then struck the Nissan. A Maryland State Police helicopter flew the trooper to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Nissan I-95 South was transported by ambulance to Union Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were not injured in the crash.

I-95 South was closed in the area of MD 272 as a result of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
