MD State Police Respond To Crash Involving Transport Of Nine Prisoners
(Baltimore, MD) – State police responded to a minor two vehicle crash this morning involving a van transporting nine prisoners.
Seven of the prisoners were transported by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. The other two prisoners were transported by ambulance to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. All nine prisoners remain under police watch.
The two correctional officers in the van were uninjured and have responded to both hospitals to guard the prisoners while they are receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident. State troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack have also been deployed to both hospitals to assist with the prisoner watch.
The preliminary investigation indicates the prisoners were being transported by a private transportation company from Tennessee. At approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning, the van was traveling southbound on I-95 when it was rear ended by a passenger vehicle at the 63.9 mile marker in Baltimore County. Police believe all nine passengers were secured in the van when the incident occurred.
The individual driving the passenger vehicle is not being identified at this time. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation continues…
