Leadership Changes in Anticipation of New Animal Care Shelter for Kent County
Anticipating a new animal shelter and a variety of exciting programs within the next three years, the Board of Directors of Animal Care Shelter for Kent County (formerly The Humane Society of Kent County), elected Prakash “Chikki” Shajwani to be the next Board President, replacing Richard Keaveney who was appointed the organization’s new Executive Director. Jane Welsh, who ably served as both board president and executive director for a period of eight years, will direct shelter operations for a to-be-determined period before eventually embracing advancement and advocacy responsibilities for the new shelter.
Chikki Shajwani, co-owner of Molly’s Place in Kennedyville, after his unanticipated election as president, said “I’m very excited to do my part for this organization with the guidance from our dedicated board. I’m also looking forward to making a positive impact in our community by navigating the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County towards a great future”.
After his appointment, Keaveney said: “I really look forward to continuing to work closely with Jane, sharing the many responsibilities of leading a “no-kill” animal shelter, building a new facility and expanding programs and services to better meet the needs of our great community”.
Following its’ recent annual board retreat, Jane expressed her thoughts about the Animal Care Shelters’ changes: “We are so fortunate to have the skills and talents of Richard and Chikki to help move us forward on our much needed new facility with expanded programs and services. Richard has extensive experience in both non-profit and for-profit organizations. Chikki is a local business owner who has been strongly supportive of our mission. I remain committed to our cause and am very excited about being a part of the new leadership team. I am also quite certain our resident animals would approve!”
