Caroline County Juvenile Arrested in Connection with School House Fire
CAROLINE COUNTY, MD – Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a Denton juvenile in connection with a historic school house fire that occurred on April 16, 2019. The 17-year-old white male from Denton was charged this morning with four offenses including, Arson Second Degree, Burglary Second Degree, Malicious Burning First Degree, and Malicious Destruction of Property.
On April 16, 2019, at approximately 10:11 p.m., the Denton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Lincoln Street after a passerby witnessed a fire at a historic school house owned by the Prince Hall Grand Lodge Masons. The structure suffered a total of $105,000 in damage and was extinguished by approximately 40 firefighters in less than an hour. There were no injuries during the incident.
Deputy State Fire Marshals obtained a confession from the individual and confirmed he lives near the location of the fire.The juvenile was later released to his grandmother without incident and the Caroline County States Attorney’s office has been notified of all charges.
