Fatal House Fire in Easton

TALBOT COUNTY, MD – Deputy State Fire Marshals are currently on the scene conducting an origin and cause investigation of a fatal fire that occurred this morning in a single family dwelling located at 28590 Ninth Drive in Easton.

The 911 call was received at approximately 8:25 a.m. from a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters from mutual aid companies assisted Easton Fire Department who arrived on the scene with one trapped. The victim was located in the kitchen. It took fire personnel approximately 10 minutes to control the fire. Smoke alarms were located in the residence. However, it is not known if they activated. The structure was built in 1997 when sprinklers were not required. Total damages are estimated at approximately $300,000.

The victim will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The Easton Police Department is assisting the Office of the State Fire Marshal with the death investigation.
