Colonel Richardson wins two out of three games against Kent County
The temperatures out side was below freezing, but inside Trojan Arena last night it was a hot night. Kent County High hosted not 2, but three basketball games. The Boys JV team as well as both the Boy’s and Girl’s Varsity teams from Colonel Richardson.
The Boys JV team played first with a 4pm tip-off. Kent’s JV team this year has had a good season with wins in all of their games, except for the two against Cambridge/South Dorchester. For the first three quarters Colonel was in the game trailing by only five going into the final quarter. The visiting Colonel’s even had a one point lead after the first quarter. Kent would flex their muscles in the final quarter to win the game 53-39.
Then it was time for the Girl’s game. The Lady Trojans played in front of a supporting crowd. Even though they play hard there usually aren’t that many fans in the stand. Perhaps partly due to them usually playing their home games at 4pm. They took the court around 5:30.
The Lady Trojans scored first a few seconds after the opening tip and lead into the second quarter. The two teams swapped leads throughout the second quarter with the Lady Colonels leading at the half, 25-20.
The second half belonged to the Lady Colonels extending their lead to 13 at the end of three with a final score of 60-34.
At around 7:30 the final game of the evening began as the Varsity Boys took the court. It was the second time that the two teams played this January. They last played on January 3rd, the first game of January. In that first game the Colonel’s had won by 9.
For the first three quarters it was a hard fought game. The Colonel’s started the scoring with the Trojans taking a lead mid-way through the quarter and held a 18-15 lead at the end of the first. The second quarter was much of the same. Both teams had small leads with the Colonel’s holding a slim one point lead at the half.
Other than a tie at 32 early in the second half, Colonel Richards lead throughout the third quarter expanding their lead to 6.
As has happen for many of the games this year for the Trojans the fourth quarter has been their downfall. And it held true again. The Trojans only scored 4 points in the first 4 minutes while the Colonel’s extended their lead to double digits. When the Buzzer sounded on the night the Colonel’s had a 77-56 victory over the Trojans.
