Chestertown, MD: Figg’s Ordinary, LLC is thrilled to announce that Figg’s Ordinary was voted 23rd of 150 best gluten-free restaurants in the United States! Popular gluten-free website Me & GFree hosted a national competition to find the best, customernominated gluten-free restaurants/bakeries in the country, and after weeks of voting Figg’s was voted 23rd in the nation!

Ingrid Hansen, Owner and CEO of Figg’s Ordinary, says, “We are so pleased the hard work of everyone at Figg’s has caught the eye of people around the country. Figg’s is committed to offering the very best and most creative gluten-free and refined sugar free foods, and being recognized in such a competitive space is really gratifying. In addition to offering delicious food and beverages, Figg’s commitment to local and sustainable practices extends beyond its sourcing of ingredients from nearby farms. It includes commissioning coffee mugs, plates, and bowls by local Chestertown potter Marilee Schumann, encouraging take-out patrons to use their own to-go cups and containers while offering 100% biodegradable packaging if needed, monitoring food waste, and directing all food scraps to the Washington College Campus Garden’s compost program. Figg’s goal is to operate as a Zero-Waste business!

What’s an Ordinary and Who is Figg?

“Ordinaries” provided a communal table around which travelers, politicians, and townspeople could share a meal and pause for conversation in the days of Colonial America. As our home of Chestertown, Maryland, was established in 1706, we thought we would renew this convivial practice from our past for current residents and visitors — hence our name, Figg’s Ordinary. Figg was our beloved miniature dachshund whose happy and spunky spirit inspired the name of our bakery. Although Figg passed on to the great kennel in the sky too soon, her memory lives on and always makes us smile, just as we hope our products make you smile!
