Caroline County Public Library Community Chess Tournament
Caroline County Public Library’s Inaugural Chess Tournament, held on Saturday, December 29, 2019 at the Denton library, was a great success! Ten players competed in the six-round Swiss System tournament, playing timed thirty-minute games.
Congratulations to the First Place Winner Henry Thayer, who won a $25 Walmart gift card and a 3D printed chess set and board. Second place finishers Beau Martinez and Isaac Thompson (tie) received 3D printed chess sets and boards. Better Days Farm of Greensboro, Maryland generously sponsored this tournament.
Library Executive Director Debby Bennett said, “We are so pleased to have such a wonderful turnout for this program. We have tried to have chess programs in the past, but now the timing was right.”
The library’s MakerSpace staff printed the chess sets used in the tournament on Prusa brand 3D printers. Stop by the MakerSpace during open hours for a tour, to learn more about 3D printing, or to play a game of chess. Email gaming@carolib.org if you are interested in joining a new Chess Club.
