Lions Defeats the Trojans With a Final Free Throw
It only took 9 seconds, a premature time out and a loose ball foul to turn a possible victory into defeat for the Kent County Trojans against the Queen Anne’s Lions in Thursday evening’s basketball game between the two rivals.
With 8.9 seconds left in the game it appeared that Kent’s Jaden Wilson’s 2 point basket broke a 59-59 tie. However Kent’s Coach Sobaye Scott had called a time out before the shot. After the time out Kent inbounded the ball which Queen Anne’s pressure defense caused a loose ball. A foul was called with 2.1 seconds before a possible overtime. It could have been on either team, but the refs called it against Kent giving Queen Anne’s two chances to break the tie.
Queen Anne’s Charles Kay missed the first of the two shots then made the second giving the Lions a 1 point lead and the win.
Neither team play a game that I think they would be proud of. There were plenty of fouls, turnovers and misplays throughout the game for both teams. Queen Anne’s led after the first period 21-14. Kent outscored them by 12 in the second to take a 5 point half time lead at 35-30.
Queen Anne’s started the 3rd going on a 12-2 run before Kent’s Ny’tre Green hit a 3 point shot to stop the run. The quarter ended with Queen Anne’s on top by 3 at 45-42. While Kent would pull it to 1 a few times and a couple of ties in the final minutes of the final quarter even though they had plenty of chances to take a lead they failed to do so.
