Fatal Fire in Greensboro
CAROLINE COUNTY – Deputy State Fire Marshals are conducting an origin and cause investigation of a fire that was discovered in the afternoon on December 12, 2018, in a one story apartment building. The property is located at 207 Maple Avenue, Apt. 6D at Maple Village in Greensboro. The property is owned by Upper Shore Aging Housing Corp.
The Greensboro Police Department discovered the remnants of a fire at approximately 2:45 p.m. when they responded for a check welfare call. Upon their arrival, they discovered a self extinguished fire and a deceased adult male. Smoke alarms were present in the residence, but due to the fire being self extinguished, it can’t be determined if the smoke alarms were activated at the time of the fire. The fire caused approximately $20,000 in damages to the structure and approximately $5,000 to the contents. The origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The victim’s name is not being released at this time pending family notification and identification of the victim.
The Greensboro Police Department is assisting with the investigation.
