Angell, Helfenbein named to Compass Regional Hospice Board of Directors

CENTREVILLE — Brandon Angell of Easton and Kirk Helfenbein of Chestertown recently were voted onto the board of directors for Compass Regional Hospice. Compass Regional Hospice is a nonprofit organization that provides hospice care and grief support services to the residents of Queen Anne’s, Kent and Caroline counties.

“We are so excited to welcome the additions of Kirk and Brandon to our board of directors,” Compass Regional Hospice Executive Director Heather Guerieri said. “The both come with knowledge of the hospice philosophy and of local hospice care provided through Compass Regional Hospice. They will add to our breadth of experience and knowledge at the board level as we grow into a large, innovative hospice and palliative care partner in health care on the Mid-Shore.”

Angell is a certified public accountant and is a senior manager with CBIZ MHM LLC in Easton. He has more than 16 years of public accounting experience and has worked with a diverse list of clients, including individuals, businesses, government entities, trusts and nonprofit organizations.

He received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from Wilmington University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and a past member of Intuit’s Accountant and Advisory Council. He also is the treasurer of the Mental Health Association of the Eastern Shore’s Board of Directors and is a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Helfenbein is the president and funeral director for Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home. He received his Bachelor of Science in business from Towson University and his mortuary science degree from the Community College of Baltimore County.

He is a member of several community and civic organizations, including the Rock Hall Lions Club, the Chestertown Elks Lodge, the Chestertown Rotary Club, Ducks Unlimited, the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, the Kent County Chamber of Commerce, the State Board of Morticians, the Chester Lodge AF & AM and the Mid-Shore Community Foundation.

The board’s Executive Committee includes Kathy Deoudes, chairman; Teresa Baumann, vice chairman; Janice Feeley, secretary; and Ed Allen, treasurer. Other members of the board include Tom Helfenbein, Linda Bounds, Debbie Dean, Julie Gillespie, Joyce Davis, Zeke Warner, Marsha Wilder, Paula Warner, Diane Pappas, Doug Pierson, C. Irving Pinder Jr., Gary Smith, Jenny Rhodes, Jason Ruth, Julie McMahan Thomas and Mary Ellen Valliant.
