Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, Inc is Looking for Fifty by February
November 1, 2018 – Eastern Shore of Maryland – It’s time to make a difference for local children. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, Inc. (BBBSES) is kicking off a Fifty by February campaign, a mission to enroll 50 new adult mentors by February 2019. Anyone living in the 9 counties of the Eastern Shore of Maryland is invited to inspire potential in the lives of children by volunteering to mentor.
BBBSES is asking for individuals to stand up for one of the 140 children on the waiting list. There is especially a need for male volunteers. No special skills are required, other than the ability to spend 4 hours a month. “I just want someone to play basketball with,” said one of the children waiting for a mentor, who lives with his grandmother and has minimal contact with his parents. “My grandma can’t, so I really just want someone to play with.” The campaign includes a multitude of recruitment and awareness activities and events including Networking for a Cause, Information Sessions, Mentor Trainings, A Business After Hours and many presentations.
“One of our main goals of the campaign is to meet the ever growing need for an increased number of mentors, particularly men,” said Jessica Mimms, Executive Director for BBBSES. “Children who are mentored have reduced risky behavior, are less likely to be truant and are less likely to engage in drugs and alcohol.”
Whether you like basketball, crafts, or anything in between, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore would like to discuss how sharing your interests with a child can be the best decision you ever make!
