Pedestrian Struck by a Tractor Trailer

On 10-11-18 at approximately 5:33 a.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police Centreville Barrack responded to the area of Westbound Rt. 50 @ Piney Narrows Rd, Chester, MD for the report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer.

At 5:41 a.m., EMS declared the pedestrian deceased on scene. The deceased was identified as James Edward Fresch, a 66 year old male from Chester, MD. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division units and the Maryland State Police CRASH Team also responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.

Statewide Operations Center and the State Highway Administration assisted with traffic direction. The roadway experienced partial lane closures with traffic still able to pass in the open lanes and shoulder area. The investigation revealed that pedestrian error was the cause of the fatality.
