Pedestrian Fatal Collision in Cecil County

NORTH EAST, MD – On October 13, 2018, at approximately 10:45 PM, troopers from the North East Barrack responded to the area of eastbound Pulaski Hwy (US Rt. 40) west of Mechanics Valley Road for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed a white 2015 silver Honda Odyssey, operated by Robert Malinowski, 47 yo of Earleville, Maryland, was traveling eastbound in the left lane of Rt. 40 when it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was identified as Lauren Brusca, 31 yo of Horsham, Pennsylvania. Ms. Brusca was crossing the roadway in a non-pedestrian crossing zone, wearing dark colored clothing in a low light area.

Ms. Brusca was transported by Maryland State Police Aviation medevac to the University of Maryland Medical Center, Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after 6:00 AM Sunday morning.

It is unknown if alcohol is a factor in the incident at this time.

The State Highway Administration assisted with road closures while a crash reconstructionist investigated the scene. The eastbound lanes of Pulaski Hwy were closed between Rogers Road and Mechanics Valley Road for approximately five hours.
