Caroline County Remembrance Ceremony — Sunday, Nov. 4. The event begins at 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 S. 5th Ave., Denton. At this special event, we will reflect on the precious lives of those who have passed away. We invite you, your family and friends to help us honor and remember your loved ones. Volunteer Training Session —Tuesday through Thursday, Nov. 6, 7 and 8. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce (USDA Building), 9194 Legion Road, Denton. Registration is required, and completing the entire class is necessary for volunteers who would like to work with patients and families. National Survivor Day — Saturday, Nov. 17. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Compass Regional Hospice. Survivor Day is the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather at events around the world to find comfort and understanding by sharing stories of healing and hope. The event will include the screening of a film written and produced by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a time of fellowship, a luncheon and a time of remembrance. Typically, the event is an intimate gathering of those who are sharing in a similar loss. Compass Regional Hospice’s grief counselors welcome guests to bring photos of loved ones to share during the remembrance ceremony. Estate Treasures Warehouse Sale — Saturday, Nov. 17. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 106 Log Canoe Circle, Chesapeake Business Park, Stevensville. Come find deeply discounted furniture, tools, sporting goods, small kitchen appliances, home décor, housewares, area rugs, wood-slat Hunter Douglas blinds, children’s clothing, toys and more. Vigil Volunteer Training — Thursday, Nov. 29. The training will begin at 10 a.m. at Compass Regional Hospice’s Hope and Healing Center, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville. Vigil volunteers are present with patients, families and caregivers facing the last days and moments of life. A gift offered wherever a patient calls home or in Compass Regional Hospice’s residential care facilities, vigil volunteers can be there to reiterate or remind families of what medical personnel have communicated, suggest comfort care for patients, sit with the patient while a caregiver has a chance to rest, and reassure caregivers they are doing a good job. The training will be facilitated by Support Services Supervisor and social worker Sharon Loving. Caroline County Festival of Trees — Compass Regional Hospice will be hosting, along with Bill and Gail Towers, the 2018 Caroline County Festival of Trees to benefit hospice care and grief support services in Caroline County. The event will take place at the Towers Family Historical Museum, 26299 Sennett Road, Denton. The event will begin Tuesday, Nov. 27, with tree setup from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tree setup will continue on Nov. 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. Trees will be available for viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30, and Santa will make a special appearance, as well. Trees again will be available for viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1. Bidding for the trees will begin at 4 p.m. Nov. 29 and will run through 4 p.m. Dec. 1 and will be facilitated by Trice Auctions. Whomever has the winning bid on a tree will be able to pick up their tree between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 2. Compass Regional Hospice is looking for sponsors for the event, as well as tree decorators and bidders. Hope and Healing for the Holidays Workshop — Saturday, Dec. 1. From 9:30 a.m. to noon at Compass Regional Hospice’s Hope and Healing Center, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville (time and location change from previous calendar announcement sent in October). Come for conversation and creative activities designed to help heal from the loss of a loved one. Open to anyone 18 and older. Includes a light breakfast, beverages and an art project. Supervised child care will be available. Space is limited. Cost: $10, but no one will be turned away based on an inability to pay. All Losses Grief Support Group — Fourth Tuesday of each month; Nov. 27. Due to the Christmas holiday, there will be no group meeting in December. From noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Caroline County Public Library, Federalsburg branch, 123 Morris Ave., Federalsburg. A drop-in group for individuals, 18 and older, who have experienced any type of loss. Compass Regional Hospice is a fully licensed, independent, community-based nonprofit organization certified by Medicare and the state of Maryland and accredited by the Joint Commission. Since 1985, Compass Regional Hospice has been dedicated to supporting people of all ages through the challenge of living with a life-limiting illness and learning to live following the death of a loved one. Today, the organization is a regional provider of hospice care and grief support in Queen Anne’s, Kent and Caroline counties. “Care on your terms” is the promise that guides staff and volunteers as they care for patients in private residences, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and the residential hospice centers in Centreville and Chestertown. Grief support services are offered to children, adults and families of patients who died under hospice care, as well as members of the community who are grieving the loss of a loved one, through The Hope and Healing Center.
